A political party is a group that have some unifying principles that bring them together. A party system is how political parties interface to get candidates elected. For example the United States has a 2 party system. One of the 2 parties will have the majority and will run the government. Germany has a multiparty system. There can be 3,4,5 or more political parties. It is possible a single can have a majority greater than 50% and thus run the government. Many times no single party has more than 50%. 2 or more parties can get together to form a coalition and thus run the government that way.
