The renal pelvis is the funnel-like dilated proximal part of the ureter in the kidney. It is present on the inside of the hilum. Renal pelvis has projections called calyces.

The renal papilla is the apex of a renal pyramid which projects into the lumen of a calyx of the kidney and through which collecting tubules discharge urine.
