when the pollen grains of same plants are fall into the same plant it is called self pollination

when the pollen grains of one plant is fallen into another plant is called cross pollination

Differences between self pollination and cross pollination are:-

1) self pollination :-

(i) it is migration of pollen grains from another to stigma of the same flower

(ii) self - pollination always occurs through touch Or wind

(iii)both anthers and stigmas matures at the same time.

(iv) it can occur in closed flower homozygous.

(v) it preserves the parental characters. origin of new species is not possible.

2) cross pollination :-

(i) it is migration of pollen grains from another to stigma of another flower of another plants.

(ii) it always occurs through an external agent

(iii) the anthers of stigmas mature at different time

(iv)it can occur in open flower and it always heterozygous.

(v) it does not preserve the parental characters produces new range of varieties.
