Image is a true reflection of body. It is formed by reflection of light rays by an object. You are able to see something only when reflected rays from a body make an image in your eyes.
Whereas shadow is formed by obstruction of light by an opaque object. One cannot readily identify something by its shadow. For example, some people can make different structures look -alike of animals etc. only by their hands.
