himalayas are mountains due to the upliftment of layers of land and northern plains are those plains which are made by the himalayan rivers..by getting sediments from the upper part of himalaya..

Himalayas : they form due to movement of two tectonic plates which leads to formation of these folding mountain
Northern plains : northern plains are formed by the deposition of sediments brought down by the ganga , brahamputra and its tributaries from the Himalayas
