Summary. Autotrophs store chemical energy in carbohydrate food molecules they build themselves. Most autotrophs make their "food" through photosynthesis using the energy of the sun. Heterotrophs cannot make their own food, so they must eat or absorb it.

Autotrophs are organisms which can easily synthesize food on their own using natural raw materials and thus don't depend on any organism for survival. For example, green plants like algae and neem.

Heterotrophs are organisms which can't synthesize food on their own and thus depend on other organisms for food and nourishment. For example, humans.
