While the earthquake is caused due to tremor or movement of the tectonic plates under the surface of the earth, a tsunami is caused when the earthquake takes place under the water. Thus, we can say that a tsunami is generated due to an earthquake. However, all the tsunamis are not caused due to earthquakes.
