Spirit burners very rarely produce soot, burn quite hot but not as hot as a hot Bunsen flame which is capable of melting copper ie temp. > ... a bunsen burner uses LPG as fuel and is used in laboratories. A spirit lamp uses alcoholic fuel to generate light.
