The landlords in Awadh were known as the Zamindars, and in Hyderabad they were called the Doras.
The similarities :
1. The zamindars were the landlords of their mahals or estates and paid the land revenue directly to the state. They were the local village authorities.
During the Nizam's rule the rural areas were controlled by feudal lords known as Doras, who were mostly from the Reddy and Velama community.
2. Both the Zamindars and the Doras were intermediaries between the cultivator and the state.
3. The zamindars worked independently and were not controlled by the local administration.
Similarly the Nizam did not have much control over the Doras who were the masters of all they surveyed.
The differences :
1. The Zamindar acted as a tax collector and also as judge and policeman, a dispenser of loans and a giver of gifts.
While the Doras ran a brutal and oppressive reign. They mercilessly extracted taxes from the hapless peasantry and kept the Nizam happy with their tribute.
2. The zamindari system was abolished by the Congress government of Uttar Pradesh in July 1952, by the Zamindari Abolition Act.
While the oppression of the Doras led to the Telangana Rebellion in 1946.
