Efficiency is used to describe power cycles that output energy, i.e. any steam/gas power cycle while COP is used for cycles that consume energy. Efficiency is regarded as the ratio of net work to the heat being put into the system (W_net/Q_in).

Answer ⤵

Efficiency :-

  • Efficiency is the ability to avoid wasting materials, energy, efforts, money, and time in doing something or in producing a desired result.
  • In a more general sense, it is the ability to do things well, successfully, and without waste.
  • "Efficiency is thus not a goal in itself.

coefficient of performance :-

  • The coefficient of performance or COP of a heat pump, refrigerator or air conditioning system is a ratio of useful heating or cooling provided to work required.
  • Higher COPs equate to lower operating costs.
