Different between Marchantia and Anthoceros
Answers
Answer:
(1) Marchantia
Marchantia is a genus of liverworts characterized by the presence of tiny, cup-like structures known as gemma cups. These gemma cups are used for asexual reproduction. Another characteristic feature of this genus is the combination of the barrel-shaped pores. The third characteristic feature of the genus is the differentiation of the plant body into two cell layers. Here, the upper cell layer is photosynthetic, while the lower cell layer serves as a storage layer. Moreover, the upper layer consists of a well-defined upper epidermis with pores.
(2) Anthoceros
Plant is lobed, dorsiventral green thallus with irregular branching and attached to the substratum by rhizoids only. No air-pores or air chambers present, the cells on the dorsal surface contain large chloroplasts and prominent pyrenoids, on the ventral surface slits are present which has been Nostoc. Sex organs are homothallic. Antheridia develop in clusters (4-6) within, antheridial chambers deeply embedded into the dorsal surface of the thallus. Same as in Riccia, but each antheridium is long-stalked.
