Mixed Cropping :-

  • Targets to minimize the risk of crop failure.
  • Seeds of two crops are mixed before sowing.
  • Seeds of different crops are not grown in any definite pattern.
  • Some fertilizers have to be used for all crops being grown under mixed cropping.
  • Different pesticides cannot be used to different crops growing in a field.
  • Crops cannot be harvested and threshed separately.
  • Products of different crops cannot be separated. They get mixed. Thus, products are marketed and consumed in mixed form.

Multiple Cropping :-

  • Targets to increase productivity per unit area.
  • Seeds of two crops are not mixed.
  • Seeds of two crops are sown either in separate rows or strips.
  • Fertilizers can be used as per the need of different crops.
  • Pesticides can be used as per the requirement of each crop.
  • Crops are harvested and threshed separately.
  • Products of each crop can be marketed and consumed separately.
