Power is the potential or ability in a person that influence and control others with actions while authority is the formal and legal right that a person has to take decisions and give orders and commands.

Explanation:

In order for a person to have power one need to have enough knowledge and expertise to do something. It is also known to be personal traits which does not follow hierarchy and resides with the person.

On the other side as for authority the main source is office and position which follows a hierarchy and designation. Authority is also a formal right that is mostly given to high officials.
