Hey Ma8 ,

*****
# total distance travelled in the given interval of time is called speed

# displacement of an object in the given interval of time is called velocity

# speed has scalar quantity

# speed = distance / time

# velocity has vector quantity

# velocity = displacement / time

SPEED

  • Speed is nothing but the distance travelled by an object per unit of time.
  • Speed is a scalar quantity because speed only depends upon the magnitude not the direction of motion of the object.
  • Speed is always positive because it doesn't depend on the direction of motion of the object.
  • If an object started moving then the speed can never be zero because once object moves then distance is covered which cannot be zero.

VELOCITY

  • Velocity is displacement of object per unit of time.
  • Velocity  is vector quantity because it depends on the magnitude as well as the direction of motion of object.
  • Velocity may be positive and negative as it depends on the direction in which object moves.
  • If an object started moving then velocity may be zero if the displacement of the object is zero.
