Different between speed and velocity?​

Speed is the distance traveled by an object where as, velocity is distance traveled by an object per unit time in a particular direction. Speed is a scalar quantity where as velocity is a vector quantity.

Speed

  1. It is the distance travelled by a body in unit time
  2. It is a scalar quantity
  3. it can be changed by the distance travelled by a body in a particular time
  4. It is always positive or zero but can never be negative.

Velocity

  1. Velocity is the speed of an object moving in definite direction.
  2. It is a vector quantity.
  3. It can be changed by changing the speed of a body.
  4. It sometimes may be positive, zero or negative.
