Vasectomy is basically removal ( ectomy - removal) of this vas deferens which renders the male sterile.Tubectomy is the sterilization done in females. Here a part of fallopian tubes (where fertilization of sperm and ovum takes place) is removed and the rest of it is tied.

surgical methods are also called sterilisation.
STERILISATION in the male is called vasectomy.
STERILISATION in the female is called tubectomy.

In vasectomy,a small part of the vas deferens is removed or tied up through a small incision on the scrotum.
whereas in tubectomy,a small part of the fallopian tube is removed or tied up through a small incision in the abdomen or through vagina.
These techniques are highly effective but their reversibility is very poor.
