A body falling freely from a height experiences two forces. Its potential energy is changed into Kinetic energy.

Change in P.E = Change in K.E

               m.g.h = 1/2 mv^2

Explanation:

As we know that

A body at a certain height "h" has potential energy stored in it. i.e.

Potential energy = m.g.h

Where

  • m = mass of body
  • h = height
  • G = gravitational pull

Similarly, if a body falls freely from a certain height "h" then the potential energy stored in it is converted into Kinetic energy.

That is;

Change in P.E = Change in K.E

               mgh = 1/2 mv^2
