Generation of computer is the term used to describe how computers have changed and evolved over the years both in hardware and software and also the way we use them to perform different tasks. There are 5 main generations of computers.

1. First generation - (1940s-1950s) - Vacuum tube.
2. Second generation - (1950s-1960s) - Transistor.
3. Third generation - (1960s-1970s) - Integrated circuit.
4. Fourth generation - (1970s-present) - Microprocessor.
5. Fifth generation - (The present and the future) - Artificial intelligence (AI).
