In Bangladesh Brahmaputra splits into two distributary branches:

The western branch is called Jamuna (Jomuna) which joins with the lower Ganges and there it is called as the Padma River (Pôdda).

The eastern branch is called the lower or old Brahmaputra (Bromhoputro). It joins the Meghna River.

The Padma and Meghna converge near Chandpur and flow out into the Bay of Bengal where the river is called Meghna.
