Nature of soil depend upon several factors such as nature of parent rocks, temperature, humidity, rainfall etc. India has a vast longitudnal and latitudnal extent and hence every region has different climatic conditions. This is the reason why different regions have different types of soil.

For example,

In the Northern Indian Plains, alluvial soil has been formed due to the erosional, transportational and depositional activities of the Three HImalayan rivers. This soil is very fertile.

In the Deccan Plateau, the Black soil has been formed due to the weathering of lava and cooling of lava after a volcanic eruption. This soil is suitable for growing cotton.

In Rajasthan due to scarcity of rainfall, the soil is sandy and does not support extensive agriculture.

Hope it helps..!!!
