1) Joseph priestly: concluded that the plants restore to the air whatever the living organism or flames remove or consume.

2) Jan Ingenhousz: showed that in the presence of sunlight it is only green parts of plants that release oxygen.

3)Julius von Sachs: found that the green parts in the plants is where glucose is made and glucose is usually stored as starch. later he showed that the green substance in plants (now called chlorophyll ) is located in special bodies (now called chloroplasts) within the cells.

5) Cornelius van Neil: based on his studies of purple and green sulphur bacteria demonstrated that during photosynthesis hydrogen released from a suitable oxidisable compound reduces carbon dioxide to carbohydrates and he inferred that oxygen evolved by the green plants come from water and not from carbon dioxide
