Answer:

(B) A car moving on a road in heavy traffic shows acceleration motion

Explanation:

  • Acceleration:Change in the speed of an object with time is acceleration

Lets look into both the examples:

Example 1: A boy is riding his cycle with same speed hence there is no change in velocity which means acceleration=0. (friction not taken into account)

Example 2: A car moving in heavy traffic will show a change in velocity as, sometimes it has to stop, reduce the velocity and sometimes increase.Hence a change in velocity will always lead to acceleration.

(a) There is no acceleration. This is because the velocity is constant and there is no change in it. If the boy rides his bicycle in a circular path, there must be acceleration in the boy.

Mathematically,

a = ∆v/∆t = (v - u)/t = (v - v)/t = 0/t = 0.

(b) Yes, there is a continuous acceleration and deceleration. Since the speed and direction is changing, there must be acceleration.
