There are three types of gauges in indian railway
1) Narrow gauge
2) Meter gauge
3) Broad gauge
Narrow gauge are used in hilly area .it is set up between Kalka and Shimla route
Meter gauge is set up between jaipur and Sikar route
Nowdays broad gauge is set up in whole india.it is set up between Delhi and Mumbai route.This gauge is generally found in plane area.
