Calcination is the process of converting an ore into its oxide by heating it strongly below its melting point either in the absencr or limited supply of air whereas roasting is the process of cinverting an ore into its metallic oxide by heating strongly at a temperature below its melting point in the presence of excess of air/oxygen.
CALCINATION:-
When Al2O3.2H2O is heated it converts into Al2O3+2H2O
ROASTING:-
S8 + 8O2 changes into 8SO2
