Explanation:

Self-pollination occurs when the pollen from the anther is deposited on the stigma of the same flower, or another flower on the same plant. Cross-pollination is the transfer of pollen from the anther of one flower to the stigma of another flower on a different individual of the same species.

Answer :

Self - pollination :

  1. In self-pollination pollen grains of a flower are transferred to the stigma of same flower or some other flower borne by the same plant or to the stigma of a genetically identical plant.
  2. No pollinators needed and less wastage of pollen.
  3. Flowers are bisexual & anthers and stigma mature at the same time.
  4. Seed formed are small and plants weak .

Cross - pollination :

  1. In cross-pollination pollen grains of a flower are transferred to the stigma of a flower borne by the another plant of the same species pollen agents are needed.
  2. Pollen agents are needed & there is more wastage of pollen.
  3. Flowers may be unisexual or bisexual. They are variously adapted to check self-pollination.
  4. Seeds,plants show hybrid vigour.
