First of all there a 27 genera of of basic clouds. The basic cloud forms are three; Cumulus, stratus, and cirrius. Now there are 9 types of cumulus clouds, Nine types of stratus clouds, and nine types of cirrus clouds. They are divided into types. The cumulonimbus occurs when a warm front overrides a cold front it has an anvil head and reaches around 40,000 f in the air. Now a cumulonimbus has an extreme upward vertical draft of wind which can rip the wings off any aircraft. Usually, when cumulonibius clouds exist large hale stones happen.

You can get rain from cumulus type clouds. Cumulonimbus usually denote a cumulus cloud that has towered so high its top has gone to ice crystals and anvils out to cirro stratus cloud. Both produce rain.

hope this helps.
