Contact force:

  • Contact force is a type of force acting on bodies when they are in physical contact with one another.

  • Contact forces are mainly facilitated by electromagnetic interaction between particles of the bodies.

  • Examples: Friction force, Reaction force, etc.

Non-Contact force:

  • Non-Contact force is a type of force acting on bodies even when the bodies are not in physical touch or contact with one another.

  • It is mainly facilitated by presence of special particles in the field like gravitons, etc.

  • Examples: Gravitational force, nuclear force, Electrostatic Force, etc.

The differences between a Contact force and a Force at a Distance are as follows:

Contact Force

  • When two things are in touch with one another, at that time a force will be created,it is called as a contact force.
  • This force directly exert a force on things to move away and come towards each other.
  • Examples of contact forces are throwing a short put ball, writing with a pencil in a paper

Force at a Distance

  • When two things are not in touch with one another, even though a force will be created due to its gravity and magnetic effects produced. It is called as a force at a distance.
  • This force  they attracts and repels the things due to the gravitational and magnetic effects produced by the two things which are not in touch with one another.
  • Examples are sun and moon.
