Acceleration:

- It is positive

- It is the rate of change of velocity with time

Retardation:

- It is negative

- It is negative acceleration

Explanation:

acceleration means when velocity of a body is increasing and it is always taken in positive

retardation means when velocity of a body is decreasing and this is always in negetive

in other words if initial velocity >final velocity it is retardation

and if initial velocity < final velocity it is acceleration
