Basic oxides are always oxides of metals. They combine with water to form metal hydroxides which are usually called bases. Na2O, MgO, CaO, FeO and CuO are examples of basic oxides. Acidic oxides are mostly oxides of non-metals, and they dissolve in water to form acids.
