(1) The flowers with syncarpous ovary have more than one carpel.

However, these carpels are fused.

Difference between Apocarpous and Syncarpous ovary:

Carpel is a female reproductive organ of the flower which consists of stigma and ovaries. On the basis of the number of ovaries in a carpel, the plant is divided in to two different types, that is Apocarpous and Syncarpous.

Apocarpous ovary:

  • The plant with apocarpous flowers has multiple number of free ovaries.
  • The apocarpous ovary develops into multiple kinds of fruitlets.

Syncarpous ovary:

  • In the plants with syncarpous flowers, there is a single ovary present.
  • Syncarpous ovary develops into single fruitlet.
