arteries have thick walls whereas veins' walls are thin
arteries carry oxygenated blood but veins carry deoxygenated blood
arteries get good supply of oxygen but veins suffer from oxygen deficiency
in arteries blood flows with higher velocity but blood travel slowly in veins
arteries supplies blood to different body parts but veins take blood to heart from different body parts

DEAR STUDENT

Arteries and veins both carry blood around the body

--------Arteries carry blood from the heart to the rest of the body

*******veins carry blood from the rest of the body back to the heart.

--------arteries carry oxygenated blood

******* all veins carry deoxygenated blood.

pulmonary artery, which carries deoxygenated blood from the heart to the lungs, and the pulmonary vein, which carries oxygenated blood from the lungs to the heart are exception

--------Arteries have a thick elastic muscle layer in order to withstand the pressure changes during heartbeat

*******the muscle layer for veins is much thinner.they carry blood at much lower pressures so do not need such a thick wall.

--------Arteries have a much narrower lumen. lumen is the hole at the centre that the blood flows through than veins. This helps keep higher blood pressures in the arteries,

*******Veins have valves. because the lower blood pressure in veins valves are needed to stop blood flowing backwards

--------arteries do not have valves. because blood flows in the right direction because of the heart pumping it forwards at high pressures.
