Arteries
- Carry oxygen rich blood away from the heart.
- Have thick and elastic walls.
- They are deeply placed under the skin and blood moves under high pressure.
- There are no valves inside arteries.
Veins
- Carry carbon dioxide rich blood to the heart.
- Have thinner walls
- They are superficially placed and blood does not move under high pressure.
- There are valves in the veins which prevent backflow of blood to the organs.
