Autotrophic nutrition :-

  • Food is synthesised from simple inorganic raw materials such as CO2and water.

  • Presence of green pigment (chlorophyll) is necessary.

  • Food is generally prepared during day time.

  • All green plants and some bacteria have this type of nutrition.

Heterotrophic nutrition :-

  • Food is obtained directly or indirectly from autotrophs. This food is broken down with the help of enzymes.

  • No pigment is required in this type of nutrition.

  • Food can be prepared at all times.

  • All animals and fungi have this type of nutrition.

More to know :-

All animals are heterotrophs. They depend on plants or other animals for their food.

There are basically two types of nutrition-Autotrophic nutrition and heterotrophic nutrition -

Autotrophic nutrition - The mode of nutrition in which organisms (plants) make their own food using sunlight, water, and carbon dioxide is known as autotrophic nutrition.

Heterotrophic nutrition - The mode of nutrition in which organisms consume food, cannot manufacture their own food is known as heterotrophic nutrition. Animals and some plants are heterotrophic organisms. They are dependent on plants and other animals for nutrition.

Heterotrophic nutrition is further divided into sub categories- Parasitic nutrition, Symbiotic  nutrition and saprophytic nutrition.

Parasitic nutrition - The mode of nutrition in which organisms derive nutrition from body of another living organism is known as parasitic nutrition. For example- Cuscuta is a plant that cannot manufacture its own food as it lacks chlorophyll, so derive nutrients from other plants.

Saprotrophic nutrition - The mode of nutrition in which organisms derive nutrition from dead and decaying plants and animals. For example- Mushroom (fungus) feed upon dead and decaying plants and animals.

Symbiotic nutrition – The mode of nutrition in which organisms live in association with other plants or animals and share their resources. In this kind of relationship, both the partners are benefitted by the relationship. For example- Lichen (association between plants and animals)

Snail –Their mode of nutrition is heterotrophic. They eat vegetation, flesh and some chalk also.

Ant – Their mode of nutrition is heterotrophic. They eat sugar and other sweet products.

Eagle -Their mode of nutrition is heterotrophic.  They eat other animals such as rats, rabbits and some dead animals.

Humming- Their mode of nutrition is symbiotic. They suck nectars from flower.

Lice – Their mode of nutrition is parasitic. They suck blood from human body

Mosquito -Their mode of nutrition is heterotrophic. They suck blood from human body and nectars from flowers also.

Butterfly - Their mode of nutrition is symbiotic. They suck nectars from flower.

Housefly - Their mode of nutrition is heterotrophic. They eat anything left over by other animals and human beings.

Answer:

Autotrophic nutrition - The mode of nutrition where green plats prepare their own food with the simple substances is called autotrophic nutrition.

( auto = self, trophism - feeding)

* The plants which make their own food from the simple non - living substances is known as autotrophs.

Heterotrophic nutrition- The mode of nutrition in which Animals and non - green plants depended directly or indirectly on green plants is known as heterotrophic nutrition.

* organisms that directly or indirectly depend on green plants for nutrition is known as heterotrophs.
