Beam balance and electronic balance are measuring device. But when your step on an electronic scale you are determining how much your body weighs. Balance beam do not measure weight, instead value mass.

Beam balance is used to measure the mass of an object by comparing it with a known mass.In the beam balance known masses are placed on one pan and the substance is to be weighed is placed on the other pan. A beam scale has the capability of measuring small to very large masses.
