Biodegradable waste :
The waste which gets decomposed naturally in the environment is called Biodegradable waste.
- They are decomposed by many processes (such as bacterial action).
- They are considered beneficial for the environment.
- They can be broken down into simpler substances.
- Examples are Food waste, Paper waste, Human waste etc.
- The rate of decomposition of biodegradable substances is high or fast, which completes within few days or months.
Non-biodegradable waste :
These are the Waste which cannot be easily decomposed by natural processes.
- It causes pollution and are also harmful to the living being.
- They can't be broken down into simpler substances.
- Examples are Synthetic Materials, Artificial Rubber, Plastics etc.
- Non - biodegradable items either do not decompose and maintain their originality, even their decomposition is so slow that it may take thousands of years.
- Plastic pollution has proved to be a major threat to both the environment as well as living beings on the earth.
- The long lasting effect of plastics makes the threat a serious concern that needs urgent attention.
