Biodegradable waste :

The waste which gets decomposed naturally in the environment is called Biodegradable waste.

  1. They are decomposed by many processes (such as bacterial action).
  2. They are considered beneficial for the environment.
  3. They can be broken down into simpler substances.
  4. Examples are Food waste, Paper waste, Human waste etc.
  5. The rate of decomposition of biodegradable substances is high or fast, which completes within few days or months.

Non-biodegradable waste :

These are the Waste which cannot be easily decomposed by natural processes.

  1. It causes pollution and are also harmful to the living being.
  2. They can't be broken down into simpler substances.
  3. Examples are Synthetic Materials, Artificial Rubber, Plastics etc.
  4. Non - biodegradable items either do not decompose and maintain their originality, even their decomposition is so slow that it may take thousands of years.
  5. Plastic pollution has proved to be a major threat to both the environment as well as living beings on the earth.
  6. The long lasting effect of plastics makes the threat a serious concern that needs urgent attention.

  1. The use non-biodegradable substances which are contributing majorly in the rising of pollution should be reduced up to the remarkable level.
