Cartilage and Bone are specialised forms of connective tissue. They are both made up of cells embedded in an extracellular matrix. ... Cartilage is thin, avascular, flexible and resistant to compressive forces. Bone is highly vascularised, and its calcified matrix makes it very strong

Cartilage :

It is a flexible connective tissue.

It is of four types : Hyaline, White, Yellow, Calcified.

★ Hyaline :

Matrix is nearly fibre less.

Pliable.

Location : Nasal, Septum, Articular, Larynx.

★ White :

Collagen fibre is more.

Slightly pliable.

Location : Pubic symphysis

★ Yellow :

Elastic fibre is more.

Pliable.

Location : Ear pinna

★ Calcified :

Modified Hyaline cartilage.

Hard in nature because of deposition of calcium.

Location : Head of humans, head of femur.

Bone:

Study of bone is called osteology.

Outer most covering : Periosteum.

Formation of bone is called ossification.

Bone forming cells : Osteocytes and osteoblasts.

Bone destroying cells : osteocasts.

Each lacunae is having only 1 Osteocyte.

Osteocytes are irregular : because they have cytoplasmic extensions.
