Roasting is the process of heating ores strongly in the presence of air.

It is usually done to sulphide ores to reduce them to the oxides.

Eg. HgS2 -------> HgO + SO2

SquareRoot256: Whereas, Calcination is the process of heating in absence of air.
It is done to carbonate ores.
abhinaldo: brother can u give me a chemical equation for calcination
SquareRoot256: Sure
SquareRoot256: CaCO3 → CaO + CO2(g)
