On the basis of colour, Schimper has classified plastids into three main groups: Leucoplast, Chromoplast, Chloroplast. 

Leucoplast is the largest of all plastids. They lack pigments i.e. they are colourless.

Chromoplast is of various colours except for green, due to the presence of different pigments found in them.

Chloroplast is green coloured plastids.
