Colonies are/were the places where the foreign country rules/settle over other countries.
for eg British colonies over South Africa and India ie
British East India Company in India
Reservations are special rights, facilities , employment given to weaker sections of the society . It is also based upon Economic Status and by birth.
For eg In India Scheduled Castes,Other Backward group of people/class are given these special rights
