Combination reaction:

  • Two or more substances combine together to form a single products.
  • A + B→AB.
  • Heat is released during the chemical reaction, exothermic in nature.
  • Heat, light, electricity and catalyst may not be required to completed the reaction.
  • eg: 2Mg + O2→ 2MgO

Displacement reaction:

  • A single reactant break down or decomposes into two or more simpler products.
  • AB→ A + B
  • Heat is absorbed from the surroundings during chemical reaction, endothermic in nature.
  • Heat, light, electricity and catalyst may be required to completed the reaction.
  • EG: 2Pb(NO3)2 → 2PbO + 4NO2+ O2
