DALITS-

They were small labours or landless labour and work for daily wages which is insufficient. Status of the dalits in the village palampur was so bad and poor. Mostly SC's comprises 1/3 Rd of the population and they live in the corner of the village and live in the small houses which is made up of straw and mud.  

LANDLORDS-

The 80 upper caste families own the majority of land in Palampur. Their houses, some of them quite large, are made of brick with cement plastering.
