Contact Forces:

→ The force that acts upon a body when two bodies are in contact with each other is known as contact force.

→ A contact force always require more than one object.

→ They do no take place when the objects are distant from each other.

→ Contact forces are usually not natural forces. A few exceptions include frictional force.

→ For example: Frictional force, muscular force etc.

Non-Contact Forces:

→ The force that acts upon a body without any direct contact is known as non-contact forces.

→ A non-contact force need not always require more than one object.

→ They can take place when the objects are distant from each other.

→ Non-contact are usually natural forces.

→ For example: Magnetic force, gravitational force, electrostatic force etc.

Knowledge Bytes:

→ Contact and non - contact forces are classification of force. Even though they have a great many differences, the effects of force are same. Some effects of force are:

✳ Force changes the state of motion of an object - Force can move an object from rest and stop a moving object.

✳ It can change the speed and direction of an object.

✳ Force can change the shape as well as size of an object.
