Mixed cropping as the name suggest is used to get maximum yeild from the field with sowing / planting different crops (which do not hamper the other crops growth). Yeild timings are different so you get cash from both crops (usually one crop has roots which go in deep the others have just more wider roots). It is also known as poly culture. Farmers can keep their fields under continuous production. It enhances the productivity of the farm land.
Crop rotation is basically used to maintain the fertility of soil. Crop rotation gives various nutrients to the soil. A traditional element of crop rotation is the replenishment of nitrogen through the use of green manure in sequence with cereals and other crops. Leguminous plants are also grown to maintain soil fertility. Same type of crop planted repeatedly in the same area keeps draining the land of the same nutrients needed for that plant's growth. Second, certain pests can reach levels that are hard to control when they learn to make a home near a field that always has the same type of crop. Finally, land can be more susceptible to the forces of erosion if the same type of crop is planted repeatedly season after season. Crop rotation help mitigate these effects. Soyabeans and other leguminous plants are planted every alternate rotation so that the soil can maintain nitrogen level, kill pests, stop erosion. This practice is now followed everywhere, earlier they used to leave land by not planting (fallow), however this practice caused interruption in yeild and cash.
