Diamond and Graphite are both pure carbon substances. It is not absurd to wonder why they're different. The different appears in their arrangement. The way the Carbon atoms are connected to each other is different. Such different forms of the same element are known as Allotropes. Diamond is extremely hard, while graphite is rather brittle. Graphite is also a very good conductor of heat and electricity, while diamond is a bad conductor of electricity, it is a good conductor of heat. I will attach the structure of Graphite and Carbon
below.
I hope this helps!!

Answer:
Diamond
1) It has a crystalline structure.
2) It is made up of tetrahedral units.
3) In diamond, each carbon atom is sp3 hybridized and is bonded to four other carbon atoms through a sigma bond.
4) The C-C bond length in the diamond is 154pm.
5) It has a rigid covalent bond network which is difficult to break.
6) It acts as an electric insulator.
7) In diamond, strong three-dimensional networks are formed due to the presence of covalent bonds.
8) Hard in nature
9) Since molecules are closely packed they have high density.
10) Since there is no free carbon atom, the diamond does not conduct electricity.
12) Each carbon atom in a diamond is linked to four other carbon atoms
13) Diamond is poor conductor of electricity due to the absence of free electrons.
14) Diamond is the hardest known natural substance.
Graphite
1) It has a layered structure.
2) It has a planar geometry.
3) In graphite, each carbon atom is sp2 hybridized and is bonded to three other carbon atoms through a sigma bond while the fourth electron forms a Π-bond.
4) The C-C bond length in the graphite is 141.5pm..
5) It is quite soft and its layers can be separated easily.
6) It is a good conductor of electricity.
7) Graphites are formed due to the weak van der Waals force of attraction.
8) Soft in nature.
9) Because of the large gap between the molecules, they have low density.
10) Because of the presence of free carbon atom in graphite they can conduct electricity.
11) It has two dimensional hexagonal layered structure
12) Each carbon atom in graphite is linked to three other carbon atoms.
13) Graphite is good conductor of electricity due to the presence of free electrons in its structure.
14) Graphite is soft and slippery.
I hope this answer helps you ☺.
