Distance :

  • It is the actual path covered by an object or body.
  • It is a scalur quantity.
  • It can be positive only.
  • Distance can be equal or greater than displacement.
  • Distance never decreases with time for a moving body it can never be zero.
  • In S.I system it is measured in metres and in C.G.S system it is measured in centimetre.

Displacement :

  • It is the minimum distance between two points.
  • It is a vector quantity.
  • It can be positive , negative and zero.
  • Displacement can be equal or less than distance.
  • Displacement can decrease with tome for moving body it can be zero.
  • In S.I system it is measured in metres and in C.G.S system it is measured in centimetre.

DISTANCE-

1)Distance is the length of path travelled by a

body.

2)Distance=(Speed×Time).

3) Distance is a scalar quantity.

DISPLACEMENT-

1)Displacement is the shortest pathway, length

between initial and final point.

2) Displacement=(Velocity×Time).

3) Displacement is a vector quantity.
