dominant trait : the character that expresses (becomes phenotypically visible) itself in a heterozygous condition .
recessive trait : the character that fails to express itself aka stays hidden or unexpressed in a heterozygous condition .
heterozygous condition = a situation when the two alleles code for two contrasting characters.
