differentiate between dry storage and cold storage
Answers
Dry storage:
storing food materials in a place that is dry . It does not necessarily be cold it can be at normal room temperature too and moisture around.
cold storage :
cold storage means storing food materials in a cold environment .
In this method, foodgrains are dried in the sun to bring down the moisture content below 14% by weight to prevent any attack by pests. The dried foodgrains are then weighed, packed in gunny bags and transferred to properly ventilated halls called godowns or granaries. Grain Silos: Grain silos are tall cylindrical structures for bulk storage of foodgrains. These silos can store different stocks of food grains at different levels. The required foodgrain can be taken out from the openings provided in the silos. The grain silos have inbuilt arrangements for the protection of stored food grains from pests and micro-organisms. In our country, food grains are stored in large godowns by agencies like Food Corporation of India, Warehousing Corporation, etc.
In this method, food materials are usually stored at low temperature. It is used for storage of food materials that have very short shelf life.
