Electrolysis : The chemical decomposition produced by passing an electric current through a liquid or solution containing ions.

Non - electrolysis : An electrolyte is any salt or ionisable molecule, when dissolved in water, will give that solution the ability to conduct electricity. This is because when a salt dissolves, it's disassociated ions can move freely in solution allowing a charge to flow.

In chemistry and manufacturing, electrolysis is a technique that uses a direct electric current (DC) to drive an otherwise non-spontaneous chemical reaction. Electrolysis is commercially important as a stage in the separation of elements from naturally occurring sources such as ores using an electrolytic cell.
