The epidermis is the outermost covering of the plant body.It is made up of single layer of cells. The cells are flat and arranged without intercellular space.
As the plant grows into a tree a lot of changes take place in epidermis. A strip pf secondary meristem will multiply and form multi layers. These layers which are exposed out are called cork.the cells are dead , closely packed without intercellular space.
