While Whatsapp needs users' mobile numbers to get started. You register Your number, it's is verified anf You are good to go. Once You're in, You'll be able to chat with people from Your contact list who have Whatsapp account. If You don't have someone's Whatsapp number, You can simply ask for it. ;)
Facebook let's You upload pictures, videos, etc. Even Your personal information like workplace, school/college, email, phone number, hometown. Basically everything. You can select who can view Your photos and personal info by going through privacy settings. You can like, share, comment on others' posts.
On Whatsapp You can't upload photos, like or share anybody's pictures. You can upload a picture only once to set Your profile picture.
